Broadcom® Bluetooth® Headset Technology Now Shipping in Innovative New Jabra® Products from GN

Top Tier Global Headset Maker Selects Broadcom's BCM2044 Bluetooth Solution to Deliver Improved Audio Clarity and a Superior User Experience

IRVINE, Calif., Dec 08, 2008 -- Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM), a global leader in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications, today announced that GN, one of the world's leading manufacturers of Bluetooth® audio headsets, is now shipping multiple Jabra® headset products based on Broadcom's leading Bluetooth technology. The new Jabra headsets offer superior audio quality and ease of use, delivering a premium headset experience in sleek and stylish industrial designs. These new headsets are based on the Broadcom® BCM2044 single-chip Bluetooth system-on-a-chip (SoC) solution that integrates a Bluetooth radio, baseband and advanced audio processing on a single piece of silicon.

Wireless headsets comprise one of the top sub-segments of the large and burgeoning Bluetooth device market, with ABI Research projecting that more than 100 million units will be sold in 2009. Broadcom, which offers the industry's broadest portfolio of Bluetooth silicon and software solutions, is the leading Bluetooth supplier for cellular handset, PC/peripheral and human interface device (HID) products, representing the other leading sub-segments of this market.

In 2007, Broadcom introduced several advanced Bluetooth products targeted to the mono headset market segment, including the BCM2044 and BCM2044S with SmartAudio™ sound and voice enhancement technology that significantly improves audio quality clarity through integrated audio processing. Broadcom is shipping its Bluetooth headset technology to multiple top tier headset makers, with the new Jabra products highlighting the exceptional sound quality, radio performance and ease of use enabled by this technology.

"After establishing technology and market leadership in Bluetooth for cellular handsets, PCs, peripherals and HID products, we have now strengthened our position in the Bluetooth headset market," said Craig Ochikubo, Vice President & General Manager of Broadcom's Wireless Personal Area Networking line of business. "We are gratified to work with GN to drive a higher level of user satisfaction for new headset devices and are pleased that top manufacturers are embracing our innovative Bluetooth solutions for their popular products."

"GN continues to deliver innovative designs and a superior user experience with our Jabra Bluetooth headset products, and Broadcom Bluetooth solutions help address our customers' desire for lightweight headsets that feature premium style," said Erik Jensen, Vice President for Mobile Product Creation of GN. "With superior software capabilities and comprehensive interoperability and compliance testing, Broadcom has provided excellent support, reducing our time-to-market while minimizing our required development resources."

Product Information

The BCM2044 family of devices is based on Broadcom's field proven Bluetooth technology that supports Bluetooth Versions 2.0 and 2.1 and features the company's innovative SmartAudio sound and voice enhancement technology. SmartAudio technology significantly improves audio quality in noisy environments by reducing background noise by 95%, enabling unique form factor designs with minimal unwanted acoustic echo. The SmartAudio platform works with Broadcom's BTE software audio stack, which is optimized for audio applications and enables ease-of-use for headset designs. Since the BTE audio stack is derived from the widely used BTE-Mobile and BTW software in mobile phones and PCs, interoperability with Bluetooth audio sources has been widely tested and well proven. Broadcom also provides user friendly development tools and an easily implemented manufacturing environment to accelerate device production.
